Our sheet metal fabrication services include CNC Laser cutting, CNC punch press, CNC v-cutting ND Press brake bend, shearing and welding.
We deliver a multitude of services including welding, cutting, forming and machining. We offer additional value to our customers by limiting the need for purchasing personnel to locate multiple vendors for different services.
Sheet metal fabrication assignments usually start with shop drawings including precise measurements, moving on to the fabrication stage and finally to the installation in the project.
All engineering drawings produced by Focus Engineering are generated from the 3D model. Changes made in the 3D model will be updated in the drawings.
Drawings are created and organized in accordance with Client specifications as well as applicable design standards. The level of detail and the scope of the drawings will vary depending on the task. For a typical topside module we will deliver:
Depending on our clients needs, and on requirements from applicable standards and regulations, the 3rd party verification and approval of structural designs are made.
We also arrange 3rd party approval of equipment that may need certification, e.g. lifting equipment, pad eyes, lifting yokes, etc.
Focus Group delivers Weight Control Services and Weight Contingency Management according to ISO 19901-5 and with high weight estimation accuracy.
We design for dry weight, lifting weight, transportation/transit weight and weight grow allowances.
Our solutions covers documentation like weight summary for all phases, weight trend graphs, COG calculations for all phases and lift COG envelopes.
Focus Group develops and delivers mechanical design and engineering services for any purpose and to all industries.
Based on your specifications and requirements as a client, we offer a wide range of 3D modelling packages from conceptual to detailed designs.
We use Onshape, which is a cloud-based CAD system that ensures online access to models and drawings 24–7. You also get easy access to models, and our working process is in all regards «transparent» as stated in our core values.
Focus Group transforms product ideas into functional and reliable solutions using the principles of motion, energy and force. Our vast experience from Norwegian and International engineering and construction sites means that you can be assured of getting the right solution at the right price.
Focus Group offers EIT design in accordance with your specifications as a client and in accordance with the requirements of applicable design standards like NORSOK and DNV.
We have a strong focus on developing cost-effective design solutions. As a client you may benefit from our vast experience from Norwegian and International engineering and construction sites.
Our engineers use Bentley Race way and cable management for all 3D modelling. For instrument connection drawings we use Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI). All layouts are extracted from the 3D models – that will make them 100 % correct.
In order to develop the best design for all EIT equipment, our performing professionals work in close cooperation with the other disciplines, especially the piping discipline.

Structural design from Focus Engineering is carried out in accordance with the customers’ specifications and within the requirements of the applicable design standards. We always keep a strong focus on weight optimization and fabrication-friendly design.
Depending on the task, we use various CAD design tools. For larger structures our main software is Bentley ProSteel, whereas for smaller structures and/or mechanical design we use Onshape. All of our structural drawings are based on the structural 3D model, i.e. what you see in the model is what you will also find in the drawings.
For the structural analyses, we do all analysis work in-house. Beam models, such as topside modules, are analysed using SAP2000. Detail calculations and analyses for mechanical components are performed using ANSYS Workbench.
Based on the given design we decide what the appropriate type of analysis to used is. In addition to linear elastic analyses we also do non-linear material definitions, time/history analyses (typically for blast response analyses) and explicit dynamic analyses (impact).
For the most complex analyses we use our ANSYS license through the Rescale platform, which is a cloud-based service that lets us set up a high-performance virtual desktop in order to reduce the analysis time.
We perform structural calculations for all permanent, temporary and accidental load conditions. All analysis work is done in-house, with a high focus on selecting the right tool for the job.
Larger structures, such as topside modules are analysed and code checked using SAP2000, which is our preferred tool for calculating beam and plate element structures. Where applicable, local calculations are performed to verify capacity of connection details and lifting points.

Structural calculations for all pipe support structures are made using our own developed tool; Focus PSC (FPSC) developed for calculating standardized pipe support structures. Calculations are performed for the support frame structure itself, as well as for the pipe attachment such as U-bolts, clamped shoes, welded shoes or trunnions. Learn more here
Focus Group has a strong focus on cost effectiveness and constructability. Our vast experience from Norwegian and International engineering and construction sites enables us to combine your specifications as a client with the requirements given by the applicable design standards like NORSOK, ANSI/ASME B31.1 and B31.3 and DNVGL.
We use Bentley Prosteel as the main CAD software for modelling and drawing production of pipe supports.
Pipe supports are included in our multidiscipline 3D model. In this way, infill steel is reduced to a minimum by utilizing the existing structure wherever possible, saving both time and cost during fabrication.
We use our own developed software (FPSC) to perform calculations and documentation based on ASME, NORSOK and DNVGL requirements.
As a service to our clients, Focus Group has developed a unique software Focus PSC (FPSC) that enables a more efficient and cost saving pipe support calculation. FPSC is a tool developed especially for pipe support designers, enabling them to quickly verify the structural integrity of the pipe support design.
Calculations are performed for the support frame structure itself, as well as for the pipe attachment such as U-bolts, clamped shoes, welded shoes or trunnions. Code checking of the frame elements is in accordance with applicable DNVGL and Eurocode standards.
For support details, and connections between separate structural members, weld calculations are included. Attachments details are verified in accordance with ASME B31.3 and MW Kellogg.
The structural calculations and code checking are performed using SAP2000, which is our preferred tool for calculating frame structures. However, for the pipe support designers, all input is entered through the simple user interface of FPSC. After the calculations are performed, the results are easily accessible for the pipe support designer directly in FPSC. Joint reactions are easily extracted for further verification of the underlying structure.

In regard to CAD software, we use Bentley Open Plant Modeler (OPM) for most of our projects, but we have expertise to do PDMS as well. For stress calculations we use Caesar II.
All of our layouts and ISO drawings are based on the input in 3D model, i.e. what you see in the model is what you will find in the drawings.
We deliver Piping & Layout solutions for all Oil, Gas, LNG and LPG applications. Our senior engineers work in close cooperation with the other disciplines, especially Pipe Support, in order to create optimized solutions and results.
Pipe stress analyses are executed in accordance with recognized design standards, pipe specifications and customer requirements. We use Caesar II software to analyse e.g. design and operating temperatures and pressures, internal/external loads such as slug flow, wind, snow/ice, accelerations, external forces, imposed displacements and accidental cases with blast pressures and/or accidental heeling.
Pipe stress analyses are performed to document compliance with design standards, regulatory codes, customer specifications as well as determining support loads, support locations, equipment nozzle loads, pipe stresses and thermal displacements. We also implement pipe stress analyses/nozzle load analyses of rotation equipment such as pumps and compressors according to recognized standards.
All our designs and engineering services are based on 3D modelling.
Mechanical engineering design is mainly created in Onshape (a cloud-based CAD system). As a client you may access the models and view the work in process.
For Piping & Layout design our preferred CAD-software is Bentley Open Plant Modeler Connect Series. We perform 3D modelling and extraction of isometric drawings, stress isometrics and other relevant drawing production. All information is a part of the 3D model and drawings are a direct reflection of the model.
Models and drawings can be exported into almost any format. For evaluation of design we mainly generate Autodesk NavisWorks models that are easily exchanged with all parties concerned.
The Electro Instrumentation and Telecom (EIT) Discipline uses Bentley Raceway and Cable management for 3D modelling and relevant drawing production. All information is a part of the 3D model and drawings are a direct reflection of the model. We can export models and drawings into almost any required format.
